I created a logo for my mom’s nutritional coaching business. After she picked out what font and size she wanted the words to be, she and I brainstormed what food item she could have in her logo, eventually deciding on a beet.

I started with several potential sketches. I played around with different shapes and tops to decide what would look the best. From there, I picked my three best sketches to develop into cleaner designs with color.

After cleaning up my sketches ad adding color, I had three nearly complete designs ready to go. I ended up choosing the beet on the far left to develop even further to create the final design. I didn’t like the shape of the other two beets, and the top on the middle design was too complex.

For the final design, I played around with the colors a bit more. I changed the shape and color of the highlight on the left side to make it bigger and less bright and added a slightly less bright highlight to the right side. I also made the leafy top more flower like by making the leaves larger and the stem more squat.

I had a lot of fun with this project. It really reinforced the design process, starting with several ideas and then narrowing down until you have your best one. I also liked getting feedback from my classmates on my logo. Their responses made me feel like I was on the right track with what I was designing.
